Lofty aims as a writer are a little like one of those ornate table lighters, gorgeous but cumbersome. Appreciation of beauty, skill and vision are all things that get my ticker racing. If I can make people laugh, and highlight another’s art (in whatever form that comes) then I’m blissful. I enjoy self-deprecation, my gigantic shoulders, and cephalopods.
The Boring Stuff…
Gabriel Wilding studied photography and drama at secondary school with outstanding success, other subjects were less glowing. This is where his love of books and hatred of injustice began. He then went on to study and complete 3 years at Rose Bruford Drama School on the European theatre arts course, where he learned the value of friendship and own brand noodles. After university he co-wrote the musical Fables for a Boy in London. He started writing for various theatrical publications in a mercenary tactic to get free tickets. Things progressed from there when he found out he was actually quite good at being catty in print. He is now the culture writer for the Hackney Citizen, and regular contributor to Everything theatre and Musical Theatre review. He started ArtBite in 2025 as a way to share his multifarious taste with the world, or at least the part of it that sits within zone 9. He is currently trying to finish his first novel living in Soho with his dog Coco and partner (whose name is unimportant).
